Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) seeks a full-time tenure track Medical Assisting Instructor. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of courses within the Medical Assisting program. Under the general supervision of the Dean, Division Chair and/or Department Chair, the full-time Medical Assisting (MEDA) instructor will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other related duties as assigned. The instructor will actively and continuously seek to improve the curriculum to keep students current in the field. Assignments may include both day and evening courses at the Monterey campus and/or other sites including the Marina Education Center, and/or online instruction.
Full time faculty have responsibilities outside the classroom through contributions to the department, division and the college which include curriculum development, assessment, evaluation, and participation in student achievement and success. Faculty are expected to engage in campus life and become involved in college committees.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
• Develop and teach administrative and clinical Medical Assisting courses, including face-to face, hybrid and online, as assigned by the program coordinator. Assignments may include courses at both the Monterey and Marina campuses. Evening and weekend assignments are possible.
• Actively communicate with faculty colleagues in matters of student progress.
• Assist with advisement and counseling of students.
• Actively participate in outreach and marketing for the Medical Assisting programs.
• Assist in securing, maintaining and visiting externship sites.
• Assist with building and maintaining advisory committee and industry relationships.
• Participate in department and division meetings.
• Maintain effective and timely communication with internal and external entities.
• Assist with planning, developing, updating, and implementing course curriculum to ensure up to date industry standards and alignment with state and national initiatives; participate in program review processes.
• Submit when due, all necessary reports such as attendance and grade reports, class rosters, and class syllabi.
• Collaborate with the program coordinator in all matters of teaching Medical Assisting courses, including curriculum, lesson plans and textbook selection.
• Assist in promoting the medical assisting department in the community and local medical industry.
• Utilize and develop a variety of effective, active learning, teaching and assessment strategies including the use of computers and information technology to engage student interest and support a variety of learning styles.
• Evaluate student work using clear, objective criteria based on Student Learning Outcomes and learning objectives.
• Work with area education institutions to develop new pathways to support students' goals and future academic endeavors.
• Pursue professional development and remain current in the field through coursework, conferences, workshops, and other appropriate means.
• Participate in faculty recruitment for the Life Sciences Division. Coordinate, mentor, evaluate and select adjunct faculty to teach a full range of Medical Assisting classes.
• Carry out collegial responsibilities including, but not limited to, institutional committee assignments, student recruitment and retention, and engaging in participatory governance committees and campus life activities.
• Perform duties described in Board policy, the Faculty Handbook, the Monterey Peninsula College Teachers Association (MPCTA) Contract, and as assigned at the Monterey campus, the Education Center at Marina, and/or other designated locations.
• Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience*
• Any associate degree and six years of professional experience*

• A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
*The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment.

• Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential
• Experience working as a medical assistant in an ambulatory medical practice setting
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR)/Electronic Health Record (EHR)/Practice Management (PM) systems, preferably in an EPIC environment
• Knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations pertaining to medical assisting
• Ability to teach administrative, general and clinical courses in the medical assisting department
WORK SCHEDULE / SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Anticipated Starting Compensation
Initial salary placement is based on the current full-time salary schedule and on verification of education and experience. Starting salary is $50,288 - $73,386 annually. Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation. In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate may also earn an annual Doctoral stipend of $2,881 or an annual multiple Masters' stipend of $2,043.

Assignment & Anticipated Start Date
The assigned work year is 175.5 days per academic year (fall and spring semesters). The assignment will include 15 teaching load units (TLUs) plus five office hours per week. The selected candidate will participate in campus-wide events beginning on August 12, 2019. Semester begins August 16, 2019.
