Job Description: Registered Nurse, Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children: WPSBC serves a unique and diverse student population with dedicated, expert nursing personnel working alongside collaborative instructors, skilled therapy colleagues, and dynamic administrators.
The Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children nurtures the unique abilities of individuals with blindness and visual impairment through educational excellence and a lifetime of learning. Our low staff turnover rate is unique among human service organizations, facilitating continuity of instruction and care for our students. We’re looking for a nurse committed to caring for students with special health care needs during the residential program, Sunday evenings through Thursday evenings. Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience; health benefits are affordable and the state pension plan (PSERS) is well funded.
Ideal candidates have at least several years of nursing experience and have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. RNs without a Bachelor’s Degree but with relevant experience will be considered Effective and strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential. Candidates must hold professional nurse licensure in Pennsylvania (Registered Nurse).
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide routine and as needed nursing care for residential students ages 3-21, including medication administration, respiratory care, oversight of tube feedings, and other medically ordered health interventions
- Provide first aid and emergency care including activation of Emergency Medical Services (911) when warranted
- Update and communicate with families of students via telephone and email regarding their child’s health status
- Collaborate with nursing and other school colleagues across all three shifts to ensure continuity of care supportive of students’ learning and productive use of leisure time
- Document care activities as directed
