Health Services Director, Western Pennsylvania School for Blind ChildrenWPSBC serves a unique and diverse student population with dedicated, expert nursing personnel working alongside collaborative instructors, skilled therapy colleagues, and dynamic administrators. 


 


The Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children nurtures the unique abilities of individuals with blindness and visual impairment through educational excellence and a lifetime of learning.  Founded in 1887, we have enjoyed the respect and support of our community, families, and colleagues for our legacy of service over more than a century.  Our low staff turnover rate is unique among human service organizations, facilitating continuity of instruction and care for our students.  We value compassion and creativity, excellence in service and collaboration, the dignity of our students, and their right to self-determination.


 


We’re looking for a nursing leader committed to providing an exceptional school health program.  Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience; health benefits are affordable and the state pension plan (PSERS) is well funded.


 


Ideal candidates have a proven track record in school health leadership and have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing or a related field.  Effective and strong interpersonal and organizational skill are essential.  All candidates must hold or commit to obtain professional nurse licensure in Pennsylvania (Registered Nurse).


 


Core Responsibilities:



  • Supervise and evaluate all nursing and other department personnel across all shifts

  • Oversee provision of mandated school health services

  • Facilitate nursing staff engagement on educational teams, with families, and with community health care providers and agencies

  • Serve on School committees as assigned and as appropriate

  • Contribute to policy and procedure development, implementation, and evaluation

  • Plan and manage department budget, supplies, and inventory

  • Collaborate with Leadership Team colleagues to provide a positive and productive work environment

  • Collaborate with universities to facilitate clinical learning experiences for pre-service students


 


The Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children is located in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.  With 90 unique neighborhoods that make up the city, there is something for everyone.  Between diverse and exciting arts programming and the rich sports history of our City of Champions, we have quite the story.


The School shares the neighborhood with world class universities including the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duquesne University.  These and other local institutions of higher learning create a vibrant learning community.
