The Student Health Center frequently partners with the university Counseling Center and Shaw Wellness Institute to provide a holistic approach to health and wellness.

The Colgate Student Health Center provides convenient, high quality and cost effective care to a diverse group of students.


Functioning as the primary care provider, the Student Health Center offers routine medical care, women’s and men’s health, and mental health services, while also promoting wellness through health education.


The Student Health Center frequently partners with the university Counseling Center and Shaw Wellness Institute to provide a holistic approach to health and wellness.




As Staff Nurse LPN, this position is primarily responsible for the delivery of health care services to students. Areas of focus include responsibility for:


• Providing accurate and effective supervised triage.


• Ensuring accurate and timely capture of key medical information for incoming students, as required.


• Appropriately following protocol with respect to documentation and communicating student health information to impacted stakeholders.


• As assigned, may be accountable for efficient and effective operation of specific clinics (e.g. allergy shot clinic, travel clinics).


• This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department.

Demonstrated ability to efficiently and accurately evaluate and triage patients within scope of practice. Demonstrated ability to execute protocols related to patient care.


Customer Service

Demonstrated ability to communicate with and engage patients and the campus community to understand, guide, answer questions within their scope of practice. Maintain confidentiality of healthcare protected information (HPI ).


Licensure and Certifications

Maintenance of New York State licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Maintenance of BLS /AED certification for the healthcare professional. Maintenance of annual OSHA and bloodborne pathogen training.



Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with numerous local, regional and national health groups to provide medical and broad health services. Ability to work effectively with local healthcare organizations (e.g. hospitals, EMS , county health groups, volunteer groups, and vendors). Demonstrated ability to advance student health initiatives via development of collaborative relationships with other campus resources.



Demonstrated ability to effectively teach healthcare concepts to patients and non healthcare professionals.

Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently use the electronic medical record system consistent with privileges associated with the position’s required professional licensure.


Demonstrated ability to effectively use medical equipment and process lab samples consistent with procedures associated with the position’s required professional licensure.



Demonstrated ability to effectively and consistently apply time management, problem solving, and planning skills in the implementation of processes or programs. Demonstrated ability to effectively use technical solutions to assist in the collection/maintenance of key data and records and within university, division and department guidelines. Demonstrated ability to consistently meet functional accountabilities while staying within assigned budget constraints.

Professional Experience/Qualifications


Preferred Qualifications


• Previous experience in a Primary Care office setting.

• Efficient use of Electronic Medical Records system.




• Completion from an accredited licensed practical nurse program..and current NYS license.




• Current CPR certification


Physical Requirements


Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for more than six (6) hours per day. The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
