The Licensed Practical Nurse under the director of a licensed Registered Nurse provides nursing services to patients as ordered by the physician. The nurse is proficient in assessing the patient’s condition and assists the Registered Nurse in developing a plan of care to improve, monitor, and document the course of treatment prescribed by the physician for the patient’s diagnosis. The Licensed Practical Nurse assists the registered nurse in the care of the patients to reduce symptoms, improve the patient’s comfort level, pain management, educate the patient, gain patient’s compliance to the prescribed plan of care and assist the patient and family through end-of-life issues. The nurse is proficient in providing palliative and hospice care. Additionally, the nurse communicates with the registered nurse and members of the care team to insure proper coordination of care.
